Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Agriculture is a major economic activity in Makurdi Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State, and innovations in farming techniques, crop varieties, and equipment have the potential to significantly boost productivity. Advertising plays a crucial role in disseminating information about these agricultural innovations to farmers, helping them improve their practices and increase yields. According to Olumide and Ijeoma (2023), advertising campaigns aimed at promoting agricultural innovations have the power to enhance farmers' knowledge, encourage the adoption of new technologies, and ultimately improve food security. This study investigates the role of advertising in promoting agricultural innovations in Makurdi LGA, with a particular focus on how advertising can influence the adoption of innovations in farming practices.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the importance of agricultural innovations in improving productivity, many farmers in Makurdi LGA remain unaware or hesitant to adopt new techniques and technologies. One possible reason for this is the lack of effective advertising campaigns that communicate the benefits of these innovations. This study aims to explore the role of advertising in promoting agricultural innovations in Makurdi LGA and assess how these advertising efforts impact farmers' willingness to adopt new agricultural practices.
