Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Agriculture is a major economic activity in Makurdi Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State, and innovations in farming techniques, crop varieties, and equipment have the potential to significantly boost productivity. Advertising plays a crucial role in disseminating information about these agricultural innovations to farmers, helping them improve their practices and increase yields. According to Olumide and Ijeoma (2023), advertising campaigns aimed at promoting agricultural innovations have the power to enhance farmers' knowledge, encourage the adoption of new technologies, and ultimately improve food security. This study investigates the role of advertising in promoting agricultural innovations in Makurdi LGA, with a particular focus on how advertising can influence the adoption of innovations in farming practices.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the importance of agricultural innovations in improving productivity, many farmers in Makurdi LGA remain unaware or hesitant to adopt new techniques and technologies. One possible reason for this is the lack of effective advertising campaigns that communicate the benefits of these innovations. This study aims to explore the role of advertising in promoting agricultural innovations in Makurdi LGA and assess how these advertising efforts impact farmers' willingness to adopt new agricultural practices.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
1. To examine the role of advertising in promoting agricultural innovations in Makurdi LGA.
2. To evaluate the effectiveness of advertising campaigns in encouraging the adoption of agricultural innovations.

1.5 Research Hypothesis
1. Advertising plays a significant role in promoting agricultural innovations in Makurdi LGA.
2. Advertising campaigns effectively encourage the adoption of agricultural innovations in Makurdi.
3. Advertising positively influences farmers' knowledge and practices regarding agricultural innovations in Makurdi LGA.
1.6 Significance of the Study
This study is significant because it will provide valuable insights into how advertising can be used to promote agricultural innovations in Makurdi LGA. The findings will be useful for agricultural extension services, policymakers, and advertisers in designing campaigns that encourage the adoption of new farming technologies, ultimately improving agricultural productivity and food security.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on the role of advertising in promoting agricultural innovations in Makurdi LGA, Benue State. It does not extend to other regions or other sectors of the economy.
1.8 Operational Definition of Terms
1. Agricultural Innovations: New techniques, technologies, or practices in farming that improve productivity, sustainability, and food security.
